Imagine if at the end of Pretty Little Liars...
The girls finally find out who A is and we see the liars shocked faces but then the scene fades out and it shifts to Alison sitting at her desk writing a book, it turns out that the whole thing was her idea for a book but as the camera zooms out there is a person dressed in black standing behind her.
